Dubai Quality Award (DQA) Print E-mail

dubaiqualityawardlogo.jpg The Dubai Quality Award is based on the Excellence Model of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). The latter has been successfully applied in private and public sector organisations since 1992.

This model provides a holistic framework for organisational excellence. All nine criterion parts work as one complete system, such that any deficiency in one area will affect the score in other areas. The model does not deny that the system has parts, but it focuses on the whole, where the whole is larger than the sum of its parts. The model was designed to be non-prescriptive, in order to acknowledge the fact that there may be more than one approach for achieving excellence.

Applicants of the Dubai Quality Award must demonstrate sustained continuous improvement. They should focus on the improvement process and not on winning the award trophy. That is because the journey for excellence and the improvement activities will be much more valuable for organisations than winning a trophy.

Award Categories

There are three different categories of the Dubai Quality Award. They are listed below as follow:

  1. The Dubai Quality Award Gold Category (GOLD)
This award is presented to organisations from all sectors of the economy that have been previous winners of the Dubai Quality Award (DQA), after demonstrating tangible sustained improvement over past preformance. Winners may reapply after three consecutive years from the date of entry.
  2. The Dubai Quality Award (DQA)
This award presented to enterprises in different sectors of the economy, such as manufacturing, services, tourism, construction, finance, professional, and trade. Winners may apply for the Gold category three years after.
  3. The Dubai Quality Appreciation Programme (DQAP)
A certificate of appreciation is presented to winners in this category in appreciation of their effort and in acknowledging their work on their journey for excellence. This appreciation programme is open to small and medium-sized organisations, from al sectors of the economy. It is also open to larger organisations or divisions winthin organisations. A minimum passing level is set annually by the Award Office.

Award Validity

The maximum validity of the award is 3 years. Thus, award recipients may not continue to use the award logos on their stationery, publicity campaigns and marketing material 3 years after winning. The reason for that is because receiving the award should not be mistaken for reaching the highest possible levelan organisation can achieve. Sustaining a lead is much harder to achieve than reaching the award milestone. Thus, an organisation may cease to become role model if efforts for innovation and continuous improvement were neglected.

Therefore, organisations are encouraged to reapply for the award every 3-4 years, however, subsequent submissions must concentrate on recent approaches and improvement activities for the past 3-4 years, rather than reproducing an augmented version of their old submission.

Recognised organisations from the Appreciation Programme category may reapply for the Dubai Qulaity Award 2 years after their recognition.

Important Note:
Dubai Quality Award has no winners and no losers. Award recipients are recognised as role model organisation. They will be required to share some of their best practices with the wider community. For further details, please see what they had to say in the "Share Best Practice" conference. Contact the award office for details.

Reference to the word 'winners' in this decuments is used to distinguish role model organisations.

Many applicant organisations of the Dubai Quality Award receive tremendous benefits before and after the application stage, regardless of winning.
