The Emirate of Abu Dhabi has been very keen to improve its economic sector, so as to keep pace with the accelerated development occuring on all arenas. The implementation of modern management concepts, based on providing optimal services to the satisfaction of the customers, has received significant importance as well. This could be best attained through the enterprise's senior management, leadership as well as the organisations systems and strategic resources. The Emirate has attached great importance towards the creation of an encouraging business climate adopting and supporting the strategies of sustainable improvement as well as serving the local society.
In this context, and upon the directives of H.E. Dr. Sultan Bin
Khalifa Al Nahyan, The Honorary President of Abu Dhabi Chamber of
Commerce & Industry, the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce &
Industry has instituted the "SHEIKH KHALIFA EXCELLENCE AWARDÓ, to
encourage enterprises to develop plans, systems and resources based on
performance excellence indicators. This would be conducive to the
satisfaction of customers and it enhances an enterprise's
competitiveness thus achieving its overall goals of sustainability,
growth and profitability on the long run.
The AWARD programme model would assist production and service
enterprises, to probe the points of strength, explore potential
improvement and assess the extent of progress with respect to the
implementation of excellence performance criteria, included in the
model, in an objective manner. Through providing a comprehensive
methodology for review and periodical assessment, the AWARD model is
deemed as a reference and a guide to enterprises interested to score
further progress based on continual improvement of performance.
Accordingly, it would enable enterprises to make progress and
profitability, contributing, thereby, to the comprehensive and
sustainble development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at large.
Award Program Objectives
The “SHEIKH KHALIFA EXCELLENCE WARD” programme aims at:
- Promoting awareness and understanding of Total Quality Management (TQM) and the requirements of performance excellence among Abu Dhabi enterprises.
- Acknowledgement of performance excellence efforts and achievements among such enterprises.
- Sharing of information of the strategies leading to successful TQM implementation and adoption, thus providing a strong base and a general guideline for such implementation.
- Enhancing and strengthening the competitiveness of Abu Dhabi companies thus promoting their survival, growth and profitability on the long term and enhancing their contribution to the national economy.
Award Classifications
The “SHEIKH KHALIFA EXCELLENCE AWARD” is ffered to organizations of all sizes (Large, Small & edium sized) in all sectors of the economy as follows:
- Manufacturing Sector
- Services Sector
- Trade Sector
- Construction Sector
- Tourism Sector
- Financial Sector
- Professional Sector
Eligibility Criteria
An enterprise (company or corporation) is allowed to participate in the award programme if it meets all of the following requirements:
- Registered in Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ADCCI) as a private legal entity.
- United Arab Emirates nationals ownership 51% at least.
- An enterprise is classified as a “Large Enterprise” if its number of employees exceeds 50 employees (full time) and its annual turnover/sales is equal or more than 50 million Dirhams. An enterprise is classified as a “Small Medium Enterprise” if its number of employees is less than 50 and its annual turnover/sales is between 5 million and 50 million Dirhams.
The following organisations are excluded from participating in the award programme:
- Ministries, public departments and public owned institutions.
- Tobacco and Alcohol producing enterprises.
- Enterprises dealing with products for military purposes.
- Associations, societies, and charitable and religious instititons.
